On 14 October 2024, the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT) will be replaced by a new body, called the Administrative Review Tribunal (‘the new Tribunal’).

All cases that are before the AAT will automatically transfer to the new Tribunal. If you are an applicant or another party to a case, you do not need to do anything.

Until the commencement of the new Tribunal, you should continue to lodge or manage applications and other documents through the AAT website. If you apply for a review before the new Tribunal commences and do so by signing up for an online services account, you will still be able to access your documents and case information in the same way.

If you have questions about your case, please call us on 1800 228 333.

Common questions and answers

Is the AAT still operating?

The AAT will continue to operate as normal until the Administrative Review Tribunal commences on 14 October 2024.

What will happen to my case?

If your case is currently before the AAT or if you lodge a new application before 14 October 2024, it will be managed by the AAT. Many cases that are currently before the AAT will be finalised before the new Tribunal commences.

If your case has not been finalised by 14 October 2024, it will automatically transfer to the new Tribunal. You will not need to do anything. You will continue to receive information and notifications about your case from the new Tribunal.

I have questions about my case. Who do I contact?

If you need to ask questions about a current case at the AAT, please call us on 1800 228 333 or send us an email.

Are all decisions made by the AAT still valid?

All decisions made by the AAT until the commencement of the new Tribunal will be considered to be valid and final, subject to any appeal to a Court.

The AAT has already reviewed my case and made a decision. Can I apply to the new body for my case to be reviewed again?

In general, if the AAT has already reviewed your case and given you a decision, the new Tribunal will not consider your case again.

If you would like to appeal the decision from the AAT, please refer to your decision notification letter for information.

Can I still submit an application for review of a decision while the change is happening?

Yes, the AAT will continue to consider applications until the commencement of the new Tribunal.

You can submit an application for review of a decision on this website and it will be automatically transferred to the new Tribunal so you won’t need to apply again.

Can I apply to work at the AAT?

We advertise job vacancies for staff on the APSJobs website. The new Tribunal will also advertise staff job vacancies on the APSJobs website.

Can I apply to work at the new Tribunal as a member?
