Practice Directions, Guides and GuidelinesGuidelinesThe Tribunal is currently developing two sets of guidelines relating to evidence given by persons who have special knowledge or experience in an area. Draft Guidelines relating to Opinion EvidenceThese guidelines relate generally to written and oral evidence given in Tribunal proceedings by persons who have special knowledge or experience in an area. They are designed to inform parties, their representatives and the persons giving evidence of the Tribunal’s expectations in relation to this kind of evidence.
Draft Guidelines for the Use of Concurrent Evidence in the AATThe concurrent evidence procedure involves two or more experts giving evidence at the same time in a Tribunal hearing. The guidelines outline how the procedure will operate in the Tribunal, including the factors that may be taken into account in deciding whether or not the procedure will be used. The Tribunal undertook a study in relation to the use of the concurrent evidence procedure. The report of that study can be accessed at http://www.aat.gov.au/SpeechesPapersAndResearch/ResearchPapers.htm.
